Today’s Office Environment Crisis
Indoor air quality can be many more times polluted than outdoor air according to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Today we are spending a large amount of time indoors and don’t realize how polluted this indoor air
can be.

Sick Building Sydrome

:: The World Health Organization (WHO) investigates that: 1 Person in every 3     workers gets uncomfortable to work (sick) due to long time working in the     office.

:: According to the World Health Organization investigates, among 10 death    lung cancer, there is 1 death because of unhealthy office environment.

:: 4.6 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air    pollution. Many of hese mortalities are attributable to Indoor Air Quality    (IAQ).

:: In England, the air quality in 12.5% of 500 offices, exceed the air quality     standard level.

:: Result from Hong Kong Environment Protection Office, the ai r quality in     37.5% of office in Hong Kong, exceed the air quality standard level.

The Effect Of Bad Office Environment

:: It reduces the working efficiency.

:: According to the Canadian Trade Union, 40,000 staffs reduce at least    100,000 working days every year due to air pollution in their office.

:: A American in U.S indicated that the yearly loss caused by office pollution    has seriously reduce the US GDP up to USD 100 Billion a year.

  OFFICE HUMIDITY ISSUE
Discomfort And Problems Of Sore Eyes
In the UK, the Health and Safety Executive's Display
Screen Equipment Regulations 1992, obliges employers
maintain a level of relative humidity that prevents   discomfort and problems of sore eyes where people work   at computer terminals for long periods, a situation which   affects a high proportion of office staff.

    Dust And Dirt On Lenses
Eyes are susceptible to low humidity as the thin layer of   moisture on the cornea rapidly evaporates. Contact lens   wearers express discomfort that can increase by a factor of   five as humidity drops from 45% to 20%, by which stage   dust and dirt deposits on lenses increase causing greater   irritation.
    Electrostatic Shocks

One of the first noticeable effects of dry air is electrostatic   shocks, which occur below a threshold of 40% RH. This is   not only an annoying nuisance to people working in the   office but it can also damage sensitive computer   equipment.

                                          Causes Of Sick Building Syndrome

  Office Furniture
Computer desk and office partition hided pernicious gases. For example: formaldehyde,   benzene, heavy metal and so on.

  Chemical contaminants from indoor sources
Copy machines, compter, printer, and fax machine may
emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including formaldehyde

   Inadequate ventilation
Insufficient fresh air intake, poor distribution (air-cond system not balanced), or   stratification of air (improper mixing of air in work areas).

  Cigarette smoke pollution
Cigarette smoke are source of ammonia, carbon mono-Xide which can affect human   respiratory system and eyes, and harms the body.

  Air conditional system pollution
Sealed or tight building reduce the air circulation, filter and air flow from air
conditional produce more dust and polluted the air.

Architecture decoration polluted the fresh air.
Adhesives, paints, carpeting, wood products, synthetic Fabrics and plastics produce Benzene   and formaldehyde.
